FLOWER CARE GUIDE

At Tantalus Botanicals, we grow our flowers sustainably, without pesticides or chemical fertilizers and harvest them fresh from our garden for each arrangement we make. By supporting a local farm-to-vase operation you can feel confident that your floral experience is environmentally and ethically conscious. Here are a few steps you can take to make your flowers last as long as possible:

Display your flowers in a spot that is shady and out of the sun. Your flowers were grown under a canopy in a cool and wet rainforest at an elevation of 1400 feet, so direct sunlight and heat will damage them.

Be considerate of air-conditioned environments. Your flowers love humidity, so if they are displayed in a dry, air-conditioned location we recommend spritzing them with water once a day to keep them happy.

Keep insects out. If your home is susceptible to ants, then we recommend placing the arrangement on a plate filled with a little soapy water. This moat will keep any creatures from exploring your flowers.

Don’t touch the flowers. While it can be extremely satisfying to squeeze and handle the blooms, keep in mind that this will damage them.

Cut or remove the flowers that die first. Some blooms won’t last as long as others, especially if specific fragile flowers were requested. We recommend snipping the heads off of dead flowers or pulling them out of the vase while leaving the others.

Change the water and cut the base of the stems. Once you remove the dead flowers and there is more space in the vase, refilling it with fresh water and giving the stems a new cut will extend the life of the remaining flowers.

Compost when pau. Whether it’s your compost pile or green waste container, let your flowers return to the earth. We don’t use plastics, synthetic floral foams or wires out of respect for the environment, and we encourage you to reuse the glass vase for your own floral experiments.

Use this floral experience as a form of meditation. In life, nothing is truly permanent, whether it's your flowers, loved ones or even the ground you stand on. We can only find peace when we come to accept things for what they are and understand that life is defined by change. Instead of dwelling in the past or fearing the future, celebrate the moment and see what it means to be truly present.
